NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2006
Since my last Newsletter back in October which was very positive about the season we have just had, 2005 has turned into an Annus Horribilis. Beryl White died at the age of 79. Beryl had been the club’s secretary, treasurer and scorer for over 50 years. She was a fixture at the club and will be difficult to replace. She was loyal, trustworthy and passionate about Church Fenton and particularly the cricket club. She was delighted at the success of the club in the last 2 years. Every club should have a Beryl. I’m pleased we were able to celebrate her 50 years with the club at various events throughout 2004 culminating in the gala dinner. At our 2005 annual dinner/ presentation night just a week before she passed away, she was made clubman of the year. At the moment she’s probably in some smoking den on high telling the Lord he’s not doing things properly. She will be much missed.
Sadly, John Lofthouse also passed away on boxing day. He was well known in the area having lived and worked here all his life as well as playing both cricket and football to a very good standard. Lofty started his cricket playing for the juniors at Church Fenton some 25 to 30 years ago. He went on to play for Castleford and then Poole before returning to play for Fenton for the last few years. In the 2004 season, in which the club played some of its best ever cricket, John won the bowling averages. Our thoughts are with Sarah, his mother and father – Kath and John, his children, family and friends. He also will be much missed both on the sports field and for his friendly banter.
In view of the above, I won’t spend too much time on other matters. Suffice to say, I hope we continue to play the good cricket of the last few years. We will continue to spend time and effort improving the ground, pavilion and coaching the juniors – the future of the club and, in line with many clubs, we will be putting together a development plan to ensure the future stability of the club. I hope you are are able to join us at the club over the season and also, possibly, come to some of the club’s functions, one or two of which are mentioned below.
We held a junior presentation night recently. A huge thank you to John Blain of Yorkshire and Scotland for handing out Chuch Fenton Cricket Club caps to our juniors. A good evening was had by all.
E-MAIL
This is the the first newsletter which is going out via e-mail. It would be much more convenient if we could start sending newsletters and other bits of information about the Cricket Club electronically to as many friends of the club as possible. If you would like to join our mailing list, or know of anybody else who would, please reply by e-mail to mailto:mark.moorhouse@pumphill.co.uk

The club has entered the national village cup competition. Our first match is away against Folkton & Flixton (near Scarborough) on Sunday May 7th. Support welcome. Make a day of it.
Chris could do with some help at the ground. While there will probably be a couple of pre-season working parties, if you’ve got some spare time give him a ring. I’m sure he’ll find something for you to do.
SPONSORS
I’m afraid it’s that time of the year again in which we are looking for people to either sponsor a cricket ball or a board. Thanks again to all those who have supported us over the years, some for as long as I can remember and I hope you will all continue to support us If you are a new, potential sponsor and would like more details, please ring Mark Moorhouse 0113 281 3541 (or e-mail to the address given earlier). While there is more to it, basically, cricket ball sponsorhip is £20 and board sponsorship is £60 plus the cost of the board in the first year only. Thank you again for supporting the club.

Newsletter October 2005

NEWSLETTER October 2005
What a summer we’ve had. England have won the Ashes, Yorkshire have been promoted back up to Division One of the County Championship and, in the big one, Church Fenton have ended the season as runners-up (again), this time to Spofforth. While disappointing, this is in fact a wonderful achievement with so many young players in the team. Congratulations to the Captain and Players. Also, well done to the 2nd team who, once again, held their own in Division 3 against, mostly, other club’s first teams.
Thank you to all our Ball and Board Sponsors. They provide very necessary finances to enable the club to continue to function. Thank you to everybody who have been part of the club this year, not just the officials and players and all those who have helped with the fund-raising activities but also all those who have supported the club in any way, whether it was watching the cricket or attending the various functions which we have held. It is much appreciated.
I hope everybody enjoyed the Kinks tribute band, the sponsored Bike ride (which I understand was against the wind all the way back from Bridlington) and the end of season Golf Tournament. Also, I hope everybody likes the new fencing we have down one side of the ground. Thank you to the Parish Council for helping to arrange the funding and to Paul Roberts of Acorn Fencing for doing such a good job.
The next Club event is the annual dinner on Friday 28th October at Scalm Park. It is £15 and includes a disco. We are only allowed a maximum of 65 people so please book early. Everybody’s welcome including that often-neglected breed, the junior parents – provided they are house trained. Please ring Chris Horbury ASAP - 01904 491669.
The date of the AGM has been put back to the 28th November at 8pm in the Village Hall. This is an important but, in the past, not particularly well supported event. It is the one time in the year when everybody gets the chance to say whatever they like about the club, positive or negative. Everybody should be there – players, supporters, junior parents, sponsors, anybody with any interest in cricket in the village and so on. Please be there.
Finally, I hope everybody enjoyed the season. Most things seem to have gone reasonably smoothly and, with cricket very much in the ascendancy at the moment, I hope everyone is looking forward to the 2006 season.

NEWSLETTER
JULY 2005

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

Apologies to everybody as this rather late Newsletter should have been completed and circulated in the first few weeks of the season. I’m blaming fatherhood. Frankly, I’m exhausted. Where’s all my time gone?
Thank you to all the Match Ball Sponsors. Once again, all our 1st and 2nd team matches are sponsored. Also, thanks to our Board Sponsors, particularly those who are sponsoring us for the first time. Your help is very much appreciated
Thank you to everybody who has helped in the running of the club both pre-season and since matches started. The obvious culprits are the groundstaff – Chris Horbury and John Cahill, but it doesn’t stop there. The captains and committee have also had a lot to do. While it was back in March, thanks to all those involved with the Race Night – the organisers, those who came, Sue and Nigel for letting us use The White Horse and, most importantly, the sponsors of the horses.
Junior Cricket is once again thriving with us having an Under 13’s team and we have also been going into the village primary school on a weekly basis to do some coaching. Thanks to Tim, Richard and Tommy for all their hard work.
This is my first opportunity to publicly welcome Aaron to Church Fenton in our continuing mission to attempt to civilise those inhabitants from the opposite side of the planet. Once again this task is proving particularly difficult but we will not be defeated. We hope he enjoys his stay. Thank you to Julie and Jim for putting him up in the initial few weeks of the season and to Sue and David and their caravan since. I hope the caravan survives the summer.
Finally, the cricket. Once again, the 1st team is near the top of Division 1 which is terrific, with everything to play for in the second half of the season.. The team is made up of two distinct types of player. There are those with potential (seven of the team are aged 22 or under) and then there are those few that one would best describe as experienced. They are generally to be found directing affairs from the slips and fine leg. The 2nd team are in the middle of Division 3 and just missed out on getting through to the final of the reserve evening cup.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS
We have a very busy August. Help and Support is ESSENTIAL.
I cannot stress enough how important fund raising events are. Without them, match and annual subs would have to increase dramatically, so I don’t think it is too much to ask the club members to support events, give some assistance, bring friends and family etc..

August 7th Hog Roast
20th Kinks Tribute Band
28th Sponsored Bike Ride

HOG ROAST Traditionally, our big fund raising event of the year and a great day out.
As usual, we are asking the first team to supply salads and the second team desserts. But, in addition to this, we also need help in the kitchen and the bar. There will be a rota so that members are not on duty for too long but this can only be achieved if we have everybody’s support. Those few that ran last year’s event were exhausted by the finish and unless their workload is dramatically reduced we won’t be able to hold the Hog Roast in its current format again. I hope the players realise that they can’t get out of doing something at some stage. Please be pro-active and volunteer.
The final of the Church Fenton knock-out tournament will start the day off at around 2pm
followed by the Hog Roast at 5pm. Tickets are £5 per person. Bring friends and family. Everybody is welcome. Also vey important – Sheila Seymour wants Tombola Prizes A.S.A.P.
Tickets and info – Beryl White or anybody on the committee.

KINKS TRIBUTE BAND to be held in the Village Hall.
This includes a disco and food, costs £10 and goes on till midnight. There is also a bar. We haven’t tried this kind of event before but it should be a great night. The doors open at about 8.30pm with the band playing from 9pm. Don’t miss it. Bring your friends. Tickets are going rapidly.
Tickets and info – Paul Wilman, Jim Love or the committee.

SPONSORED BIKE RIDE from Bridlington to Church Fenton
This was tried successfully last year and we are going to repeat it. We already have more people taking part this year but we need more volunteers. These riders then need to get as many people as possible to try and guess (at £1 per guess) how long it will take. The person who is nearest the finishing time will win £50. The distance is 55 miles. If you don’t feel you can do the whole distance, why not share a bike with one or two other people. We also need a support staff to keep the bikers on the road – repairs, drinks, massages. Please help.
Contact and info – Paul Wilman or the committee.

AND IN THE FUTURE

END OF SEASON FRIENDLY on Sunday 11th September.
This is an end of season “friendly” involving as many of the clubs players as possible with the teams picked in such a way as to create as much disharmony and conflict as possible. The way it works, I think, is that runs are deducted when you’re out but you get to go back in again. Also you are limited to how many you can score in any one go. It seems to me that this format favours the sloggers so it’s obviously not for me. This is an enjoyable day with a BBQ and a bar. It has proved to be a good way of finishing off the season.
Contact and info – Richard Grogan or the committee.

The SKIPPY THEOBOLD GOLF TOURNAMENT on Sunday 18th September
This will be the third year for this event to be played at Scalm Park Golf Course with a meal afterwards. This is an enjoyable day which seems to bring some of the clubs old timers (ex-players) out of the woodwork. This event is open to anybody. The cost will be around £25 for the golf and the food.
Contact and info – Paul Wilman or the committee

There will also be the end of season DINNER (Friday 28th October) and the AGM (the following week). Further details to be announced in the future.

MORE JUNIOR CRICKET
Seven of our young cricketers have represented the Wetherby League in various teams this year. Richard Grogan, Chris Borrodale and Tommy Hudson have played for the White Rose Under 21 team. Thomas and Richard Love and James Cooper have played for the Joe Lumb Under 17 team. And Tom Dean has played for the Lord’s Taverners Under 11’s team, the first player from this club to do so. Also Richard Love has played for the Yorkshire Under 15’s team. Well done to everybody.

A FIXTURE CARD ERROR
The games on August 6th are incorrect. The 1st team Scarcroft match is at HOME and the 2nd team Crossgates match is AWAY and not as written on the fixture card.

Newsletter October 2004

CHAIRMAN’S WORDS

Once again, this year’s newsletter includes some of the reports from the AGM. I hope everyone will take on board some of the comments. Income over the year totalled £7,725 from fund raising, subs, tea money etc. Expenditure totalled £7,602 which included £800 for the store room extension. As we had £1,100 in the bank at the start of the year, we have therefore finished it with around £1,200 at the end. These are healthy figures and well done to all those involved, both on the organisational side but also on the supporting side. For instance, one of our main fund raising events, the race night, wouldn’t work if their weren’t around 60 people in the community prepared to help the club and sponsor a horse. This is an indication that the club is fairly efficient at raising the funds it needs to function and to keep moving forward. This might also give the impression that players and friends of the club do not need to get involved with the club’s organisation. However, running the club is becoming harder as their appears to be less people doing the work. We would like everyone to join us in helping to run the club. The first of this year’s general committee meetings is on Monday 29th November at 7.30pm in the White Horse. Please come along.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT (abridged report given at the 2004 AGM)

I started last year’s Chairman’s report by saying that we seemed to have had a good year both on and off the pitch and, in many ways, the same could be applied to this year as well. The main fund raising events, the Hog Roast and Race Night, did about as well as in the previous year. There were not as many of the minor fund raising events and yet at the end of the year we have a healthy bank balance even though, once again, we have had one major extra item of expenditure – namely the store room extension. This is a tribute to all the hard work put in by the committee and organisers of the events – many of them ladies. Thank you very much.

However, the initial statement above does not tell the full story and this brings me to the first of the problems facing the club. The club is too reliant on a very small group of willing workers. The committee is getting too small, particularly this year, as both Chris Horbury and Helen Rucklidge, while continuing to work for the club in various ways, are no longer standing. Thank you to them for all their hard work.

Continuing the above theme, the number of people who readily help at events are too few. Without the fund raising and fund raisers, the money raised from cricket related activities, i.e. match and annual subs and tea money, would have to triple. Take this year’s Hog Roast for instance. too few people were involved in working on the day and attempts to get more help fell on deaf ears. Some of the willing workers have informed me that if next year’s event is run on the same basis as this year’s, they will be very reluctant to join in and have even suggested that we do something else. More people have to volunteer. We don’t want to be constantly chasing people to do things. Similarly, the race night, whilst all the horses are sponsored and is therefore supported from afar, is not supported as well as I feel it should be on the night by everybody associated with the club and particularly the players. The players have to take more responsibility for their club. I keep hoping that the players would realise that the more they supported and brought friends to the fund raising activities the more money we would raise and any pressure to raise subs or funds elsewhere and, more importantly, pressure on people’s time, would be reduced.

Another problem facing the club is the number of players that we have. The club has lost a lot of players over the last couple of years and whilst, when everybody is available, we don’t have any problem raising 2 very good sides, there is a problem when we lose players because of farming, football and other reasons. Last year, 4 second team matches were cancelled and, apart from the resulting fines that are incurred, there is also the lost revenue from both match subs and tea money. There is a responsibility from players to help the captains. Dropping out on the morning of the match is not helpful. Hopefully as the current crop of juniors get a little older they will be able to help out in the adult teams.

I hope everybody enjoyed the Gala Dinner, with the excellent speaker, jazz band, food etc. It was a huge undertaking and thank you to those people who organised it. This doesn’t mean we would necessarily do things the same way if we were holding another one. The marquee was expensive. Perhaps we should have considered holding the event in a barn. Maybe we should have tried to start the disco earlier and perhaps we should have missed some things out of the middle. Perhaps we should have had a family disco from 6 till 8pm the night before. I’m sure now that we should have chosen a different day. Isn’t hindsight wonderful? There were one or two logistical issues to overcome, however we learnt a lot. We had 140 paying guests which was probably the minimum we needed to hold the event, this wasn’t helped by one table dropping out at the payment point. Whilst, we had initially wanted around 180 people, even another 20 would have started to make a reasonable profit. As it is we made a profit of around £400. We would like to hear your thoughts in case we ever consider holding something similar. Thank you again to those involved with organising the dinner.

What I do know is that we did our best to celebrate Beryl’s 50 years of service to the club. This is a huge achievement and has been mentioned at various events throughout the year, at the final of the reserve evening cup, the Hog Roast and was presented with flowers by Lawnswood (and a kiss from Chester) after their annual friendly match. I would like to officially thank Beryl at the 2004 Church Fenton AGM on behalf of the club for those 50 years of service.

There are also other people in the club to thank for fulfilling various jobs throughout the year. Tim, Richard and particularly Jo Grogan (as I’m sure she did most of the work) for looking after Travis for the season. To Alan Wilson for employing Travis. To Travis himself for being that rare breed – a reasonably house-trained and civilised Australian as well as being a good cricketer and enjoyable company. We hope he enjoyed his stay here. Thank you to the committee, the ground staff, the scorers, the captains (1st, 2nd and Thursday evening teams) and those running the juniors. Thank you to Sue and Nigel at the White Horse who do a lot more for the club than people realise. Also thanks to Martin Horbury for setting up and moving the Club forward into an Internet Site www.cfcc.org.uk and also to those that helped with the golf day, to the quiz team who have donated their winnings to the club, and finally, but by no means least, to the fund raising bicycle riders.

Which brings me to the cricket. Didn’t the 1st team do well. Coming second in Division One equals our best ever position and they were one win away from being champions. They have shown a year on year improvement over the last four years. They went passed 300 on 3 occasions (at least) and averaged over 250 batting first. Well done to the players. It also indicates that the Ground staff must be doing something right. We also benefited from purchasing the covers in 2003. In what has been a fairly rainy season, I don’t believe we would have been challenging for honors without them. I still feel the 1st team should be doing better in the cup matches. The second team got to the final of the reserve evening cup but otherwise their season was disappointing. I’m still convinced we have one of the best 2nd teams in the league.

Finally, our thoughts are with Lofty and Sarah and their families and friends. Sport is important but only as a distraction from the really important things. We hope that John gets better soon.

Newsletter June 2004

Chairman's Report
Welcome to the first newsletter of the year. I hope everyone’s enjoying the season, whether as a player or a supporter. Both the 1st and 2nd teams are doing well with the club still represented in 3 of the 4 cup competitions. The 1st team are in the top four of the first division and, at the time of writing, are still in the Sunday cup. The 2nd team are still in both cup competitions and comfortably placed mid-table in division 3. Some of the cricket that the 1st team is playing is excellent. Batting first at Church Fenton, they are averaging around 250 runs per innings. They have now gone passed 300 runs on two occassions already this season and I can’t remember this happening even once in any of my 20 odd years at the club. Our president, Willie Harrison, says it happened once in his time as a cricketer. Recently Mark Iveson and Travis Nicholson put on 208 runs for the 1st wicket. This was only 10 runs short of the division’s record – a terrific effort.
This is a testament not just to the 1st team players but also to the groundstaff, Chris Horbury and his side-kick, John Cahill. The ground is looking terrific; the pitches have been consistently good each week and we are continually getting compliments from visitors, umpires, other teams etc. who have visited year after year on the strides forward that we are making. While this is due in large measure to Chris and John, it is also the culmination of many years of hard work. Good grounds and good pitches don’t happen overnight and Chris and all those who have worked on the ground in the past should feel justifiably proud of themselves. If you look back a number of years, you can see how far the club has moved in a relatively short time. We have already extended the store room this year which, whilst not a major change, is another step forward for the club, and a much needed improvement for the groundstaff. Thank you, once again, to David Poulter for doing the work. We have other plans in the pipeline, one of which is to improve the clubs Roller so if anybody happens to have a 2 ton machine (or slightly heavier) with a 4 foot roll, doing nothing in the back garden please get in touch – particularly if it is in excellent condition and not going to cost a lot.
A Joe Lumb under 17's match was played recently in which the Wetherby league played the Doncaster league. Unfortunately the game was called off during the second innings due to rain but Donaster were very complimentary about the ground. They were also very appreciative of the food, which I have to say, was staggeringly good - I think I tried most of the cakes. Thank you to Sheila, Jo and all the usual suspects for the food and also to those who ran the bar. It is a shame the day was spoiled by the weather.
On a more serious note, this is the first chance I’ve had to publicly thank our ball and board sponsors for this year, some of them sponsoring us for the first time. They make a huge contribution to the club’s funds. I hope all of the club make an effort to recognise their contribution and I hope the sponsors come down to the ground to watch some cricket, meet the players and supporters, and enjoy the facilities. Please introduce yourself if you are new to the club but, be warned, if my batting is as bad as some of my recent efforts, I might not be very communicative.
Welcome to Travis. In common with many cricket clubs in the land, we are continuing in our mission to attempt to civilise the Australian native. Fortunately, we seem to have found one who is already reasonably well house trained – he only bites when under the influence of a few cans of Fosters.
Finally, the club’s social and fund raising events continue as normal, organised by the usual suspects, with one or two new things added to this year’s diary. Please try to support all of the events. Of particular note is a Gala Dinner in a marquee at the ground on the last Saturday of the season organised by Jill, Helen, Julia and Jim. This should be a lot of fun with a really excellent speaker (I’ve heard him), an excellent chef, jazz music, a disco and more. I’m not aware that this kind of event happens very often in the Church Fenton outback so grab the chance to go while you can.
Please read the rest of the newsletter for further details on this event and all the others as well as everything else that is happening around the club. Also, please remember that many of the events and activities within the club need people to help in the running of them. Please volunteer – every little helps.

1st XI

2nd XI

Juniors
Junior Cricket is important to Church Fenton. Many of today’s senior players came through the junior ranks in the recent, (and not so recent), past. We are concentrating this year on the under 11’s with some players in older age groups practising with Saxton. As well as coaching on Friday nights, there have been a couple of matches and one victory against South Milford. This is an improvement on our last crop of juniors who won everything at the Under 17 level but never won a game as under 11’s. Thanks to Warren Davies, Tim and Richard Grogan as well as Jill Wilkinson for organising the Juniors this year. If anybody wants futher information about Junior Cricket, please get in touch with any of the usual suspects.

Fund Raising

The Club is continually trying to raise funds both to purchase new machinery to assist Chris and John in their Ground duties as well as developing the facilities themselves. We are currently pursuing two avenues of funding in the hope that we may secure some money to resource the building of a new toilet block consisting of not only male and female toilets, but disabled/assisted facilities and a baby changing area. If anyone knows of any pots of money/funding streams that the Club could tap into please could you forward any details to either Mark, Sheila, Chris, Jill or Helen.

It is rumoured that we have 4 budding cyclists (Paul Wilman, Andrew Marshall, Rob Love & Mark Iveson) who are planning to cycle from Bridlington back to Church Fenton in order to raise some money for the Club. As yet a definite date has not been agreed, (I think they are still in training), however, once a date is set I'm sure they will all be looking for some sponsorship and would also appreciate everyone's support.

Also, it is understood that Tim Grogan and his Fenton Flyer Monday Night Quiz Team (consisting of ……………………..) have been saving up their winnings (to date I believe they have approximately £30) which they are also willing to donate to Club Funds.

Thanks to all the above, this is a fine example of goodwill and I'm sure appreciated by all involved in the Club.

Newsletter August 2003

Chairman's Report …

We are now nearing the end of the season and from my point of view everything has gone really well. The second team are comfortably placed in the third division with no danger of going down (or up) and have won one of the two cup competions. The 1st team are above the relagation area and probably need one more win to be certain of remaining in the first division.

The fund raising events - the Knock-Out + Hog Roast, the Jumble Sale, the Hare Cup have been organised and run very well by the usual suspects and supported well by the members, supporters and the village community. Financially, it appears that each event that has been run this year has either equalled or beaten the previous years efforts. A big thank you to everybody. Having said that, the committee and usual suspects do feel stretched at times and would be delighted if there were any volunteers to help in the running of the club and the events. The AGM is in November and new committee members are required.

Cup Matches

Congratulations to the 2nd XI who won the reserve evening cup beating the favourites, Oulton in the final at Wetherby – The last time we won this tournament was in 1971 when a young Geoff Marshall was captain. It was an extremely exciting game and kept everyone one the edges of their seats right up to the end. Church Fenton scored 100 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs, which, even on a difficult pitch, didn’t look like being enough. All the bowlers bowled well and the fielding was first class. Oulton struggled towards the total and with 2 overs remaining needed 10 runs. but with only 2 wickets in hand. A certain D. Watson, who was named man of the match, took the final 2 wickets in the penultimate over to leave Church Fenton the winners by 7 runs. Thomas Lovealso deserved consideration for man of the match for his 5 over spell at the beginning of the match which netted 2 important wickets for 21 runs (and his first over went for 11 of them). A fantastic win, a great day - congratulations to all involved.
Sponsorship, Match Balls & Fixture Card
A further match ball sponsorship has been received, in the name of Geoff Marshall. This now completes a full fixture card (22 Home Matches) and as such has raised a total of £440 in Match Ball Sponsorship alone. Please could you all add Geoff's name to the final fixture on your card :-
20th September - Little Ribston
Thanks to everyone who has sponsored a match ball this year. It is very much appreciated.
Jumble Sale
I am sure that all will agree who were there to see it with their own eyes, what a surprise it was to see a queue outside the Village Hall door at 6.30pm.
The Jumble Sale was extremely successful, took the form of a very hectic hour and a half, and ended up raising a total of £200+. Thanks to everyone who donated items as well as helped on the night.

Hare Cup
Thanks to everybody for a great day. The ground looked terrific, everybody said so. Thanks to Chris, John C. et al.

The food was wonderful - thanks to Jo, Sheila, Dom and everybody else.

I hope the league thought that we did a good job. Beryl says that this is the first time we have been invited to put on a final in her 48 years or so at the club. Hopefully it won't be as long before we put on another one.

As far as I could tell the preparation and running of the day was excellent. I was really delighted for everyone associated with the club.
A few things were repaired prior to the match. Gary R. got both showers working perfectly. John B repaired the seat near the sight screen and Les T repaired the window in the ladies.

Also thanks to Gary for running the bar. Thanks to everybody for everything.

Village Knock Out Final & Hog Roast Day
The final of the Village Knockout was between The Squash Club and The White Horse Teams, the eventual winners being The White Horse. Good fun was had by all (except for the chairman who broke a bone in his hand while taking a catch). Not only is this knock-out worth doing from a financial point of view but it also provides the village with some light-hearted cricket and the opportunity for many to turn their hand to a spell of batting and bowling.
Once again, the Hog Roast seemed to be a success - thankfully the rain held off and the day turned out to be very pleasant.
Thank you to everyone that helped on the day, many jobs had to be done; setting up the tents (thank you to Paul Baxter for the loan for his tent), bar (thanks to Nigel and Sue, and also Alan Watson for the loan of a till) and preparing the ground during in the morning; the preparation of the food by many for the event; sorting out the pavilion; serving the food and the heartless task of washing up afterwards; running the bar and clearing up the ground after the event. A lot of effort has to go into the day to make it a success.
The Hog Roast raised a total of £913
Thanks and congratulations are expressed to everyone.

Chairman's Report …
I hope everyone’s enjoying the season, whether you are a player or supporter. Both the 1st and 2nd teams have had some good wins but also some disappointing defeats. At the time of writing, the 1st team are still in the Sunday cup and the 2nd team are still in the evening cup. Your support is appreciated.
Thanks to Chris H. for the excellent condition of the ground this year. We may have forgotten but it was very wet at the beginning of the season. And thanks to all those people who have helped with jobs around the ground and in the clubhouse. Some get mentioned, a lot don’t. If you feel you could help even if it’s only a little bit, please get in touch with the usual suspects. For instance, some assistance with junior coaching would be particularly useful.

The club is continuing to improve and this year, on top of the normal expenditure, has spent an additional £1000 on some covers. This has left us temporarily a bit short of cash. Please help us to recoup these costs by promptly paying your yearly subs and by supporting Club events, the next being a Jumble Sale followed by The Hare Cup final and then the Hog Roast. Details of these are given elsewhere in this newsletter. Please make a conscious effort to be part of these events

Thank you for your support
Mark

Donations and Thanks
“Thank You” must be said, on behalf of the Cricket Club, to Paul Wilman for donating the benches which are now positioned around the perimeter of the ground. I'm sure you will agree, they look fantastic.
Also "Thank You" to Brian Tunstall for offering his time and services in wiring up the electically operated clock which Keith Ellis recently donated.
This sort of kindness and generosity does not go without recognition and the Club and its members are greatly appreciative. Thank you.
