Welcome to Church Fenton Cricket Club Online

The club is struggling at the moment. The first team, who won the league last year using a squad of 13 players, don't have a settled side yet having used 19 different players in the first five matches. This has had a knock-on effect on the 2nd team who are having to play mostly first teams in Division 3 with a team comprising some of our older players and probably too many juniors, though it is great experience for them.

See Third Man's first team reports in the appropriate section on your right.

Mark Iveson has been in touch wondering if anybody would like to sponsor him. Please see his letter in STOP PRESS below.

Senior Nets - Thursday nights from 6.30pm.

Junior Coaching started a few weeks ago. Because it has been so wet we organised some indoor sessions at the nearby RAF station on Wedneday evenings with some 30 children turning up. Thanks to the camp for letting us use their facilities. If interested please get in touch with Paul Wilman (01937 557350). They will be moving onto the ground this Wednesday 23rd April provided it is dry enough.

2007 was a momentous year for the club. We won both the league title and the senior evening cup competition for the first time. Our junior set-up improved with us able to put out a third age group team in 2008. However, more important than any of the above, we have finally managed to acquire the ground permanently.
To be more accurate, the parish council have purchased the ground on our behalf. At the same time, a Deed of Dedication has been put on the land guaranteeing that it can only be used for cricket and a 125 year lease has also been agreed. This is a huge step forward for the club. Our thanks must go to Andy Wharton and the rest of the Parish Council for supporting the club. We must also thank William and Phillip Harrison for selling the ground. The Harrison family have been custodians of the ground since the club started in around 1895. The importance of this purchase is two fold. Firstly, it secures our future in this increasingly mercenary and uncertain world. Secondly, it will help us to raise grants for development of the ground, particularly the club house, and hopefully there will be movement on this front in 2008.
The AGM was held recently and not much has changed regarding the club's officials. Jim Love remains as Chairman and Adam Walton is going to continue as first team captain in 2008. A big thank you goes to Sheila Seymour who is standing down from the committee after many years excellent work on behalf of the club. Much of her work involved co-ordinating the running of the committee, taking minutes, dealing with non cricket organisations and, more publicly, helping with the organisation and running of various club functions and so on. Fortunately, she will maintain some contact with the club including continuing her work with the archives.

WRITE TO ED I may regret this but you can write to this website. The e-mail address is ed@cfcc.org.uk

Mark Iveson has been in touch to see if anybody would like to sponsor him.
He writes: I'm walking the 3 Peaks of Yorkshire on Sat June 21st and would like to raise as much money as possible for a very good cause (Yorkshire Cancer Research). My friend Martin has recently won the battle against Hodgin's Lymphoma, he's been in remission now for 6 months and we are now actively seeking sponsors.
If you could pass this onto other members of the Club, I'd be very grateful and hopefully we'll get beyond our target of £1,000. Martin has a fund raising website, where donations/sponorship can be made at the following address, http://www.justgiving.com/martinwiseman (you can see Tracy and myself on the photo after we all climbed Scafell Pike in training for the main event!)
or if preferred, donations can be sent directly to myself at:-
