History of Church Fenton Cricket Club
Following the 1st World War, the 2 cricket clubs in the village were amalgamated, playing on until 1939. Matches were resumed in 1944. A 1947 team photograph includes Howard Jackson & William Harrison, who both still live in CF.
The club’s first dinner was held in the village hall in 1962 when the Jessop Cup was presented to the 1st team & the Skyrack cup to the 2nds. In 1968, the club left the Barkston Ash league, joining the Wetherby League the following season. Martyn Moxon, county player, presented our junior trophies in October 1997.
Recent successes were winning the Hare Cup(given to the Wetherby League in 1931), in 1999 when Adam Walton was Man of the Match & the Reserve Evening Cup in 2003.
In 2000, the club consented to the planting of 4 Millennium oak trees which are flourishing. Improvements to grounds & pavilion have gradually been made over many years, much of the work being done by club members.
