Church Fenton nets underway

Hard to believe but we are barely two months from the start of the 2009 season.

Pre-season nets have already started and are being held under new first team captain Richard Grogan's watchful eye from 7pm-8pm every Wednesday at Lordswood Cricket School, near Tadcaster.

We have two nets and all are welcome. One or two newcomers have already been spotted while a few familiar faces are looking in good touch.

One other item to note. The Wetherby League have announced they are unable to issue clubs with a full fixture list for the season due to problems with an (unnamed) club. Will keep you posted.

Welcome to Church Fenton Cricket Club Online

This has been a lousy year for cricket because of the weather. The first team finally ended the season in mid-table. We had lost too many players from the previous years championship winning team and we continued to lose players over the season to work and other reasons. As a result players were continually being pulled in from the second team. Our thanks go to Ben Durrant, our overseas player from Australia, who had an excellent year bowling off spin. His batting was a bit dodgy though, as I've been informed by some correspondence from Australia, dodgy is apparently a definate improvement from the norm. We hope he enjoyed his year here. The first team did get into the final of the Sunday Cup but, because of the weather, it wasn't played being cancelled on 2 or 3 occasions and this game has been put over to the beginning of next season.
The second team somehow contrived not to be relegated from division 3. From the beginning of July to the end of the season we played 5 games of cricket with 6 games being cancelled. With 2 games to go we dropped into relegation position second from bottom, 1 point behind Barwick and Wetherby. We didn't play either of the last two matches and picked up 2 points for each for draws. Our last match away against St Chads couldn't be played because the pitch was boggy following flooding the previous week. Barwick played Wetherby on the final saturday and, with Barwick winning, Wetherby got 0 points and were relegated.
I will endeavour to bring the rest of the website up to date over the next few days.

WRITE TO ED I may regret this but you can write to this website. The e-mail address is ed@cfcc.org.uk

Mark Iveson has been in touch to see if anybody would like to sponsor him.
He writes: I'm walking the 3 Peaks of Yorkshire on Sat June 21st and would like to raise as much money as possible for a very good cause (Yorkshire Cancer Research). My friend Martin has recently won the battle against Hodgin's Lymphoma, he's been in remission now for 6 months and we are now actively seeking sponsors.
If you could pass this onto other members of the Club, I'd be very grateful and hopefully we'll get beyond our target of £1,000. Martin has a fund raising website, where donations/sponorship can be made at the following address, http://www.justgiving.com/martinwiseman (you can see Tracy and myself on the photo after we all climbed Scafell Pike in training for the main event!)
or if preferred, donations can be sent directly to myself at:-
